Natural Marine Collagen Research

Vida Glow cites a monocentric, double-blind, randomised and placebo-controlled study investigating 2.5g of Type I fish collagen peptides in 57 mature women.

Participants received fish collagen peptides, fish collagen peptides combined with silicon or a maltodextrin placebo once daily for 12 weeks. Instrumental and clinical assessments were performed at baseline, week eight and week 12.

The published findings included:

Significant improvements in skin elasticity and firmness after eight and 12 weeks in both collagen groups, but not in the placebo group

A significant increase in skin thickness in the collagen-only group compared with placebo

Improvement in crow’s-feet appearance in 74% of the collagen-only group at week 12

Improvements in selected assessments of complexion homogeneity and radiance

No statistically significant objective improvement in skin hydration across the treatment groups

Vida Glow separately reports that 70% of participants recorded a significant improvement in crow’s-feet wrinkles, 60% recorded improvement in wrinkles around the mouth and 68% experienced increased skin hydration.
